Juice Cleanse // Day One

I few weeks ago I had a hair-brained idea to do a juice cleanse. I'm crazy, I know, you don't have to remind me of that. The deciding factor was an online promotion for a popular NYC based 3-day cleanse and as I am currently residing in Manhattan, delivery was FREE! I mean free delivery in Manhattan is the best thing ever, am I right? I also was curious to see what all the fuss is about.

All stocked up and ready to cleanse.

All stocked up and ready to cleanse.

Sunday night all of my nourishment for the next three days was delivered in a tidy box. As I unpacked the 18 bottles the reality of the days ahead sunk in. There would be no delicious egg whites, sweet potatoes and peanut butter until Thursday. Instead I would be drinking six bottles of juice each day filled with greens, fruits, ginger, and a little bit of agave nectar.

Well today marks the end of Day One. It's been interesting to say the least. I had an extremely difficult time getting through the two green juices, holding my nose just to choke the second one down. The remaining bottles were palatable, but even still I found it impossible to finish every one. Six 16 ounce bottles is a lot of juice!

My energy level seemed ok this morning, so I opted to go ahead with my planned strength training workout. I went to the gym early, thinking that I would have residual energy from the previous evening's dinner. Boy, was I wrong. From the first set of bent-over rows I knew that I was going to limp through the entire workout. Ugh. After the gym I took a nap and then watched hours of bad reality television. Real high energy day :(

It's 10pm now and I'm pretty sure the jar of peanut butter in the kitchen is whispering my name. Yup, that about sums up Day One.

One day down, two to go.
